Clan Paterson of that Ilk, Scotland; descended from MacPhadraig, the son of the devotee of St. Patrick. The clan settled by Loch Fyne in the 13th century. Of the clan, William Patrison witnessed a charter in Aberdeen in 1446; James Paterson was sheriff-depute of Inverness in 1563, later Provost of the city. William Paterson of Dumfries founded the Bank of England. The niece of Sir Hugh Paterson of Bannockburn, Clementina Walkinshaw was mistress of Prince Charles Edward Stuart and bore him a daughter, Charlotte, Duchess of Albany.
