Hackston

Clan Halkerston of Scotland; the name derived from a term for a falconer, and the family were the king's falconers. Johan de Haukerstone submitted to Edward I of England in 1296. David Halkerston was killed in Edinburgh in 1544 in an attack by English troops. The principal line became the Lairds of Rathillet in Fife.

Arms: Or, three falcons’ heads erased gules.

Crest: A falcon’s head erased proper.

Motto: In ardua nitor (I endeavour in difficulties).
