Clan Macnaghten of Duncrave Castle, Scotland and later Bushmills, County Antrim and Mahan, County Armagh, Ireland; descended from Nechten, who succeeded his half brother Bridei IV as King of the Picts in 706. Gilchrist Macnachten received a grant of lands from Alexander III in 1267. Alexander Macnaghten who married Christina Campbell, died in 1361, and his widow was made to cede one third of the Macnaghten lands to her cousin Sir Colin Campbell of Lochow. Her son Duncan made his new seat at Duncrave. The present chiefs descend from John MacNaughten, known as Shane Dhu, who became secretary to the Earl of Antrim in 1580; his descendant Alexander Edmond became chief in Ulster in 1818.

Arms: Quarterly, 1st and 4th, argent, a dexter hand fessways proper, holding a cross crosslet fitchee azure; 2nd and 3rd, argent, a tower embattled gules.

Crest: A tower embattled gules.

Motto: I hoip in God.
